SC Chapter Earns International Awards

Each year, IAWP holds a competition between all the U.S. chapters.  The Chapter Development Contest judges award nominations and chapter programs based on a point system.  South Carolina has ranked #1 in competition for four years.  The chapter received three International first place awards and one second place award!

The Coastal Workforce Center received the second place International One-Stop of the Year Award.

South Carolina’s Boyce Culp Unemployment Insurance Award of Excellence winner, Dianna Milhollin, received the first place International UI Award, which was a new award this year on the International level. Milhollin’s collaboration with several agencies and entities ensured that UI benefits were delivered despite a huge natural disaster: Hurricane Katrina  Because of this work, she now has a reputation as the expert in the Southeast on the Federal-State UI System and on Disaster Unemployment Assistance. She is also the 2006 Recipient of the U.S. Southeastern Outstanding Supervisor Award and the Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award for Employment & Training Regional Hurricane Katrina Team.

The Award of Merit is the highest award presented by the International Association and this year South Carolina brought home both the first place Individual Award of Merit and the first place Group Award of Merit!

Clark Newsom is the Individual Award of Merit winner. He earned the award for his outstanding work as the Communications Director at the South Carolina Employment Security Commission and for his support of IAWP.

The Coastal Workforce Center was recognized for their work in providing services to over 1,000 visitors per week. The Workforce Center has its own website to share information about the services it offers and staff is involved in helping create a county-wide 211 information service. In 2006, the center started processing youth eligibility for a new training program which primarily serves high school drop-outs, and they provide outstanding services for veterans in the one-stop’s Veterans Resource Area. They were recognized not only for the services they provide to the public, but for their support of IAWP.
